Psychedelic Furs with Gary Numan at the Brooklyn Paramount
What I thought would be just a simple live concert turned out to be three birds with one stone. First off, it never stops amazing me how much history New York City has. After seven years of living here and constantly walking its streets, I’m convinced there’s still so much I don’t know.
The Brooklyn Paramount, established in 1928 and once home to performances by legends like Duke Ellington, is a stunning baroque-style venue that wows you from the moment you step inside. Its high ceilings give a sense of grandeur and openness — even in a packed concert hall. With its great management and smooth organization, it made for a truly comfortable and memorable night out.
I had no idea who the Psychedelic Furs or Gary Numan were before the show, but as soon as they started playing, I realized I actually knew a few of their songs. It’s always funny when that happens — when you don’t recognize the name but somehow know the music by heart. Turns out, one of their tracks had even been used in a Dsquared2 fashion show soundtrack back when I worked with them, which made the moment even more special.
We were lucky to be there thanks to Zack, the drummer for Psychedelic Furs, who’s a family member of dear friend Eleanor and was kind enough to get us tickets and backstage passes. The performance was truly amazing— the kind of live show where the band’s energy and the venue’s acoustics merge perfectly, creating a night that feels almost transcendent.
After great live music, countless Modelos, and laughter shared with friends and family, I left with one simple thought: I should go out and see more live events — it’s NYC!
